Fly Fishing – July 2015

Greetings

I am certain you are all aware of the current negative national sentiment that seems to be hanging over our country like dark cloud.  Winter and load shedding  are contributing factors but I have no doubt the this national malady is  largely due to the frustration the nation is feeling at  the  ineptitude and the total lack of leadership displayed by our singing president, his harmonious choir and cadre appointees in strategic Government  institutions.
However seasons do change and we can only hope that by spring the national mood will have changed to one of more optimism.

Recent Trips: Italy
Pam and I have just returned from a wonderful two week trip to Italy. Part business and part leisure, we were hosted by an Italian fly fishing consortium for a week and the rest of the time we spent travelling to some of the most scenic parts of this  historic country.
They say you can’t teach and old dog new tricks but I have come back to SA with renewed appreciation of the skills required to catch wily trout in crystal clear fast flowing mountain rivers by casting tiny dry flies on 15 – 20 foot leaders upstream.
I was also introduced to the Italian style of fly casting and participated in the SIM Fly Instuctors annual fly casting clinic which is a precursor to their annual International fly fishing festival.
I was so impressed with their professional approach of developing and the promotion of their fly fishing industry that Pam and I will definitely be going back there for the workshop and festival next year.
With the numerous contacts that we made there we are in the process of putting together  a number of travel options for the South African market that will consist of a genuine Italian family experience that will include fly fishing as well as numerous other non fly fshing activities such as Italian cooking lessons, horse and mountain bike trail rides.
If anyone is interested in either participating in the Italian International  fly fishing fair or in travel to Italy with flyfishing as an option please contact me.  Once packages have been finalised I shall  inform you accordingly.
