Fly Fishing – 2015 August

A week recently spent up in the Highveld made me realise just how mild and benign our coastal KZN winter temperatures are by comparison.  I had gone to Gauteng to see clients, retailers, wholesalers and friends which is always a pleasure but the experience was somewhat marred by returning home with a serious bout of ‘flu.
Winter and hopefully my ‘flu will soon be a thing of the past as we look forward to our spring and early summer fly fishing season. In this regard we still have a few spaces available on two trips that we have planned for the next few.

Orange River: 16 – 21 October 2015
We have two rods available on this five night trip to a new destination on the Orange River where we will be targeting small- and largemouth yellowfish.  With nine kilometres of pristine river to fish, new and very comfortable shared accommodation, famous Northern Cape hospitality and cuisine to match, the first Ufudu trip to this prime venue is not to be missed at an introductory cost of just R4000 per person, sharing.

SPECIAL OFFER:  Maldives Couples trip: 23 – 30 November 2015
With the South African Rand depreciating by 46% in the last two years we have had difficulty in filling this trip and have decided to cut margins where possible in order to make it more affordable and attractive.  Consequently we are now in a position to reduce the original trip cost from $2750 to $2100 pp sharing.  This offer is however conditional upon having a minimum of five couples confirmed by the 15th Of September 2015.  Currently I have one couple confirmed with three other couples very interested.
If you require more information about this unique seven night fly fishing holiday with your partner to the Maldives aboard the luxury boat Conte Max, please contact me as soon as possible.

The Ufudu Shop
On my recent trip to Italy I fished for trout on several of their rivers and was fortunate to spend time with the S. I. M. Fly casting instructors learning the Italian-style of dry fly casting.  Consequently, I have decided to extend the range of the gear that we stock in our shop to include tackle suitable for trout and yellowfish.
We now have rods, reels and tippet material that range from 3 to 12 wt. in stock.

Ufudu Flies
Zethu, our fly tyer, is now so snowed under with orders that we have had to turn down several orders.  For those living in Gauteng, a comprehensive range of our flies is available at Mia’s Woodmead, Mavungana and Solly’s Fourways.  In KZN our flies are available at Basil Manning and here at the Home of Ufudu.
For those wanting to sharpen up on their casting skills in preparation for the summer season and wish to attend one of our fly casting courses  during August and September, please contact me to make an appointment or to discuss the details.

This is wishing you good health and tight lines for spring and early summer…

Best regards
Ben Pretorius.
